PROJECT TRANSFORMATION
Matthews Memorial is a Host Church for Project Transformation Tennessee, meaning we facilitate social-emotional & literacy-based programs throughout the school-year and summer for the elementary school children in our neighborhood.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Project Transformation’s afterschool program serves children grades K-5. Children participate in daily enrichment activities including homework assistance, art enrichment, science and math exploration, healthy decision-making and nutrition education. Daily activities aim to address any deficiencies, while building a love for reading and desire to be life-long learners.
Summer Program
Project Transformation operates an eight-week summer programs serving children rising into grades 1-8, focused on enriching mind and body with an emphasis on literacy. Each day, children read one-on-one with community volunteers and participate in activity-based literacy intervention. Children also participate in daily enrichment activities including recreational play and exercise, creative arts, and interaction with our young adult interns and community volunteers, who inspire and encourage children daily to make responsible, sound decisions.
Here are some ways you can get involved:
Help with homework. Project Transformation is looking for caring volunteers to offer mentorship, one-on-one homework help, and reading tutoring. We ask volunteers to consider committing to one day per week. All volunteers are asked to participate in a one-hour orientation session prior to service. (Click on Get Involved and then Volunteer) (September – May, Mon – Thurs, 4:00 – 5:15 PM)
Offer program support. In addition to Homework Buddies, Project Transformation is need of caring volunteers to offer tutoring as well as support of other enrichment activities. This volunteer will work closely with the young adult Fellow to support the program. We ask volunteers to consider committing to one day per week. All volunteers are asked to participate in a one-hour orientation session prior to service. Learn more about volunteering here. (September – May, Mon – Thurs, 2:45 – 6:00 PM)
YEAR-ROUND OPPORTUNITIES:
Join us at a Family Fun Night. Family Fun Nights are like community block parties. They happen twice a semester during the school year and each month during the summer. This is an evening of fun for the children and parents in our programs, and a great opportunity to meet our neighbors! Dates will be listed below and on our calendar of church events. (Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 7:00 PM)
Collect supplies. Contact Fellow Anthony Alexander at fellow1@pttennessee.org for information on most-needed supplies.
Pray with Project Transformation Tennessee. Whether or not you are able to serve directly with PT, we invite you to join us in surrounding our children, interns, families, and volunteers in prayer.
The opportunities to get involved are limited only by your interests!
